WHAT IS THEATER OF THE OPPRESSED?

The Theater of the Oppressed describes theatrical forms that the Brazilian theater practitioner Augusto Boal first elaborated in the 1970s, first in Brazil and then in Europe. Boal’s techniques use theater as a means of promoting social and political change. In the Theater of the Oppressed, the public becomes active, and as “spect-actors”, they explore, show, analyze and transform the reality in which they live.
