About the program

The programme will introduce three films, which will present an important theme or an inspiring story about a woman. The films will be also accompanied by pedagogical resources and exercises, which will introduce teachers and their students with the role of women in cinema, together we will analyze the characters in the film, the main techniques in cinema and the potential possibilities for career development in cinema.

The selected films represent the diversity in cinema in terms of both genre and technique: Zhaleika by Eliza Petkova, a contemporary feature film about a 17-year-old girl, who seeks her freedom; The Other Side of Everything by Mila Turajlić, a documentary film based on the intimate mother-daughter conversation about the conflict which has divided not only their home but their country; Cléo from 5 to 7 by Agnes Varda, a French New wave classic following a woman in the timespan of 2 hours and her fight against vanity and fear.

Young women from five schools in Bulgaria will watch these three films for the first time and will take part of an interactive pedagogical programme, which will look at the role of women in cinema, the cinema language specifics, analysis of frames, writing a script and reenacting a scene from one of the films they have watched.
